Star Wars - The greatest media production of all time.

Star Wars was filled full of distinctive sound effects, that we have come to know and love through the series of films. These Star Wars sound effects include things like the swish of the lightsabre sound effects as it opens or is used in a fight, as well as other Star Wars sounds such as the X-fighters flying by, or Darth Vadar talking.

The Star Wars music too is well known, and well loved for its uplifting tempo. Few films have a score as well known as the Star Wars music is, and not surprisingly, since few films or series of films have lasted the test of time like Star Wars has.

When creator George Lucas first dreamed of the series in the 1970s, sound and film equipment were not as advanced as they are today. Yet when it was released in 1977, the Star Wars sound effects were modern and clean and distinctive-part of the reason that the Starwars sounds become so well known.

In the thirty years following the release of the film, technology has improved but Star Wars sounds kept pace. The first film still stands comparable to the newer movies in terms of the Star Wars music, but also in the sound effects used. Digital re-mastering has truly brought them up to par with the newer films, however it did not fundamentally change such things as the light sabre sound effect, that it had become so well known for. The branding remained the same.

The unusual release order, with the first three movies coming after the second three, meant that the earlier movies actually have the more modern of the Star Wars sound effects. If the final three are eventually produced and released, they will be more modern still-an evolution of Star Wars sounds that will be strangely out of order, but easily understood by a fan of the films.

The popularity of the Star Wars sounds has led to many people wanting to use them, or similar in their own productions of films, audio books and radio plays-even family movies. However, doing so is illegal, the Star Wars music and sounds being protected by copyright laws. The penalties for infringing upon these laws can be harsh, including large fines or potential jail time.

If you lack the skills or equipment and are thus unable to produce your own unique sound effects that create a similar atmosphere to the Star Wars sound effects, then you should consider instead visiting a royalty free music site which carries a wide range of sound affects-some of which are free to use and others that carry a small fee.

Sound effects such as galactic loop, that are reminiscent of the beeps and squeaks of the robots in the film might serve as a suitable, legal replacement for the Star Wars sounds, and wind sounds that add to the atmospheric background noises for the scene that you place your characters in.
